Abstract
Migration origin community originating from Turkey, which is trying to have a presence in the transnational arena; experiences various dilemmas that are often discussed around the concepts of integration and identity. The aim of this study is to determine the dilemmas experienced by German Turks of Turkish origin between feeling of belonging and being marginalized. While the German constitution and legal legislation seem to protect the rights of minorities in general, a significant part of the German public has negative attitudes especially towards the Muslim minority. In this study, the belonging idea of people of Turkish origin are examined by using the data of the Turkish and Integration Research Center Foundation’s research on immigrants of Turkish origin in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The data of the research titled NRW postmigrantisch- Attitudes of the North Rhine-Westphalian Population towards Muslims in Germany are interpreted using Axel Honneth’s recognition theory and the normative paradox model of Honneth and Ferdinand Sutterlüty. In the study, it was concluded that the dilemmas experienced in the history of German Muslims of Turkish origin continue, a significant part of the majority society has an attitude that excludes Muslims, and this situation has the potential to threaten general democratic principles.
